Meeting Minutes

February 28, 2003

 

 

Delegate Howard, Chair, convened the meeting at 9:00 A. M.

 

Present:  Delegates Benson, Brown, Conroy, Davis, Frush, Gaines, Griffith, Healey, Holmes, Hubbard, Kelley, Menes, Moe, Niemann, Parker, Patterson, Proctor, Ramirez, Ross, Turner, Vallario, Vaughan, and Howard

 

Absent:  0

 

Prayer:  Delegate Justin Ross

 

Delegate Howard introduced the first guest speaker for the morning, Mr. Joseph Wright, M.D., Medical Director and Community Affairs, Children’s Hospital.  He greeted the Delegation and stressed the importance of the Delegation’s continuing support of bills to fund the Trauma Center of Children’s Hospital.  He described the example, if the hospital did not have the sophisticated equipment used in the child sniper victim’s emergency visit, his life would not have been saved.  The second speaker was Marti Worshtil, Executive Director, Prince George’s County Child Resource Center.  She spoke briefly on the following issues: Teen Parents, Military Child Care, and Family Support Centers.  She explained the importance of  these issues and how it relates to Prince Georges’s County residents.  Ms. Worshtil encouraged the Delegation to study the concerns of Prince George’s County’s residents and the effect it will have on the programs if funding is cut.  The Chair thanked the speakers for attending the Delegation meeting.
